Dar dominate UMISSETA handball

Dar es Salaam  put up a stunning performance to emerge handball champions both in boys and girls categories at the ongoing Inter-Secondary Schools Games, UMISSETA.

In the boys’ final match that took place at the Kibaha Secondary School grounds in Coast Region, Dar es Salaam beat Zanzibar 26-22. The victors were in unstoppable form as they took off vigorously from the word go and pinned their opponents into their own domain for the most part of play.

Led by prolific Ally Mussa and Ally Jumbe, Dar es Salaam were a no match in the second half as they continued to record point after point. It was the same story in the girls’ category as Dar es Salaam were dominant from the start to the finish to emerge 14-11 winners against Highlands Zone. The third place went to North Western Zone who won in play-off.

Finals of other games are set for Saturday before the official closing of the event to be graced by the Minister for Information, Youth, Culture and Sports, Fenella Mukangara, in which teams and individuals will vie for gold, silver and bronze medals.

In netball final Dar es Salaam will battle it out for gold against Lake Zone this morning, while defending champions Eastern Zone have already settled for bronze medal after defeating Southern Highlands 41- 24 in a third place play-off .

Eastern Zone goals were netted by Kulwa Yusuph and Tatu Ramadhani, while Southern Highlands’ scorers were Romana Ndumbaro and Sarah Nyigo.

In boys’ volleyball, the final will pit Dar es Salaam and Eastern zones, while in football Eastern Zone will have a date with Zanzibar this morning.

Southern Highlands have won the third place in football after beating North East 7-6 in post match penalty shootouts. The match had ended 2-2 in regulation time. At least 12 zones are competing in the Games that attracted over 1,624 students.
