Committee number ten of the Constituent Assembly (CA) has proposed the inclusion of sports in the proposed Draft Katiba that was officially presented here on Wednesday Committee chairperson Anna Abdallah said sports have been neglected for a long time and now a provision recognising sports development should feature in the constitution.
“Sports have for a long time been neglected especially in schools so there is need to include them in the constitution to revive them,” she said amid applause from the CA members, including the Minister for Information, Youth, Culture and Sports, Fenella Mukangara.
Abdallah also called for the support of artists and their works to enable them benefit and improve their lives economically. The current Draft Constitution proposes that the government should safeguard rights of artists, researchers and inventors.
Abdallah further proposed the words ‘conjugal rights’ to be deleted from the Draft Katiba, saying the words, which in Kiswahili mean ‘Haki ya unyumba,’ could connote another misleading meaning before the public. “We should avoid using these words, as they do not send the right message intended,” she said.
Instead, Abdallah, who is a long serving politician said every person should be respected and deserve custodian of his/ her own privacy, his family and also respect to his/her domicile and personal communication.
