After a three-month lull the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC) snooker competition will be back next month. Snooker captain Firoz Yusufali told the ‘Sunday News’ on Saturday that plans are underway to organise the October Snooker Monthly Mug.
“We are planning to revive the tournament … actually we will stage it from next month,” he said. Yusufali added that preparations are on top gear to enable the event to take place as planned.
He said that players are anxious to have the competition and is hopeful they will come in big numbers to make it a success. Yusufali said that the tournaments could not be held in the last three months due to the several reasons including the religious holidays.
One of the sponsors and player, Rupesh Soni, is among those who are eagerly waiting for the first event since the Cargostar snooker tournament in June.
“It’s time to get back to where we belong; we have to have tournaments in our snooker section which I’m ready to support,” he said. In the last tournament upcoming Abbas Yusufali kept his fine form to win the Cargostar Division A title.
He had to overcome a stiff competition from Khuzema Kilango of Annadil Burhani Club to seal a 3-1 frame victory in the thrilling best-of-five frame final.
Yusufali was playing his first ever Division A final and went on to record a nerve-shredding victory. He was delighted to add another title to his cabinet, which includes two Division B titles that he won last year and is now looking forward to clinching the October Mug.
