Uganda Women boxers start training for World Championships

Boxing Coach Dick Katende who has just acquired the Three Star World Boxing series certificate has started coaching the national women bombers team preparing for the World Championships due in Jeju, South Korea on November 13-25.

Katende who returned to Uganda on Saturday after a one week’s training course in Sicily Italy is handling five women boxers on the team. He is being assisted bby fitness instructor coach Bricks Diamond.

The team includes Helen Baleke, Lydia Nantale, Diana Turyanabo, Diana Atwine and Maurine Nakiryowa. This will be the first time the Ugandan boxers participate in the World Championships.

In April this year, Baleke, Turyanabo and Nantale each won a silver medal at the invitational club championship tournament in Kenya.

“This is a good start and the training is at a high level than ever. We hope to get used and the target is to win medals at the World Championship,” said welterweight Baleke.
