Francis John Kinaulanga won the Scania Truck Driver of the Year Competition, during the final challenge on Saturday, held at the Tanganyika Packers grounds.
Kinaulanga took first place after completing a stiff competition from other seven drivers in the thrilling event that drew a big crowd despite a rainfall.
The winner was judged on a multiple question theory examination and practical test with the focus on road safety, economic driving, and maneuvering skills. Ramadhani Danga and Winston Rwechungura won first and second runner-up slots respectively.
The trio will be competing in a Scania truck competition held in South Africa, where the best from the SADAC will be represented.
Presenting awards to the winners of the competition, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) at the Traffic Police Division Johansen Kahatano hailed them and urged them to be role models in observing rules of the road.
“I congratulate all drivers that took part in this competition, but particularly the first three winners and may I ask you to be good ambassadors of traffic regulations, it should not end in this competition,” Kahatano said.
He commended Scania for organizing the competition, which he believes will inspire more drivers to compete and eventually become catalyst in traffic regulations. Scania official Kisali Nnyari said the winners will travel to South Africa with their mates in a full paid seven-day trip.
