Mwanza Regional Third Division League kicked off with a bang, with Alliance FC recording a 2-0 win over Sengerema All Stars at Mnadani grounds in Sengerema this week.
Kelvin Faru put the winners ahead three minutes before the interval, after being set clear by Geoffrey Luseke. After the break, the home team introduced Aman Abubakar to replace Shaban William on the 49th minutes but he could not help to change the pattern of play as Alliance maintained their dominance.
Alliance put the score line beyond their opponents’ reach with ten minutes to go, when Tajiri Hussein powered home from Ismail Zuma’s corner kick. Shortly after the game, the ‘Daily News’ spoke to Alliance FC coach Fulgence Novatus, who said his side had expected to win and he praised his players for the job well done.
He further said that they have set a target to win all their coming matches. “Our main targeted is to lift the trophy and eventually see us scale up the ladder and play the Premier League in future,” he said.
“We will continue to work hard and put our feet on the ground to reach that target.” Commenting on the league, Mwanza Football Association (MZFA) Secretary General Naseeb Mabrouk said a total of 27 teams are competing for promotion to the Second Division League.
“The main aim of the league is to find the three teams that will be promoted to the Second Division,” he said. He named the competing teams as TSC Academy, FC Jonas, Mliman FC, Channel Africa, Polisi FC and Mwanza City all from Ilemela district.
