Local Authorities Sports Federation (SHIMISEMITA) Games defending netball champions, Prime Minister’s Office, Regional Administration and Local Government (TAMISEMI), launched their title defence campaign with a resounding 80-3 win over Iramba District Council.

The one-sided encounter was held at the Jamhuri Stadium here on Monday and it was clear from the onset that the reigning champions will in the end go home with a handsome victory as their opponents were clearly a pushover.

The victors had a comfortable 39-2 lead at the breather and to signal that it was a non-competitive match, Iramba ladies only managed one goal in the remaining period of the game as their opponents managed to add another 41 goals.

TAMISEMI coach, Maimuna Kitete, said that the victory was a clear sign that they are out to defend their title. Despite suffering a massive defeat, Iramba’s Bertha Nakomolwa, said it does not mean that they will continue to give out points easily.

“They just caught us off guard today (Monday), but our next opponent should expect a tough battle,” she said. “In most cases players are filled with fear in their opening match but slowly catch up as the tournament goes on.”

In another netball game of the day, Manyoni District Council beat Ruangwa Council 26- 21. In football, TAMISEMI thrashed Iramba District Council 6-0, while the Mbarali District Council fought to a barren draw with Manyoni District Council.

TAMISEMI also defeated Mwanza City Council by 2-1 sets in men’s volleyball, while Simanjiro District Council thrashed Kyela by two straight sets and Iramba District Council emerged with a 2-0 sets victory over Sengerema District Council.

The Games that started at different venues including Jamhuri Stadium here on Monday will be officially opened tomorrow by the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office for Regional Administration and Local Government, Hawa Ghasia.
