St Paul’s University (SPU) men’s volleyball team retained the fourth edition of Savlon Nairobi branch volleyball tournament in the University category.

SPU defeated Strathmore University in straight sets (25-17, 25-23, 25-19) to take the men’s title. To the finals, Strathmore defeated KCA University in straight sets (25-19, 25-20,28-26).
In the women’s category, Kenyatta laboured to defeat last season’s champions SPU 3-2 (25-16,17-25,22-25,25-23,15-12) in a hotly contested encounter played at the University of Nairobi (UoN) grounds on Sunday evening.
Kenyatta University humbled Strathmore in straight sets 25-10, 25-19, 25-17 to book a final date against SPU in matches played in a round robin format.
In other results, 40 plus defeated Homeboys in straight sets (25-20, 25-22, 25-16) to take home the self-sponsored men’s category while Kasarani beat 40 plus with the same results 3-0 ( 25-15, 25-13, 25-13) to take home the women’s title.
To the finals 40 plus men’s team defeated Kawangware in straight sets 29-27,25-19,25-22 while Homeboys laboured to defeat Karen 3-2 (30-28,26-24,15-25,15-25,7-15) to book the final slot.
Hospital Hill continued with their fine run in the tournament recording a 2-1(21-25,25-20,10-15) win over Githiga Boys secondary while Kwanthanze proved supremacy to recapture the title for the fourth season in school’s girls category.
The two-time East Africa games champions cleanly Nembu in straight sets 25-11,25-17,25-7.
Kwanthanze coach Justine Kagwiri was delighted with the results saying it was a motivation for the new comers.
“I gave the new players a chance to participate today and they were so impressive. We will not stop training after this tournament because we will start preparing for next year champions now,” said the tactician.
Meanwhile, Nyayo Estate won the men’s sitting volleyball gathering six points while Kibera was second with three points with Nairobi coming in third with only one point.
Nairobi won the women’s category with six points and was closely followed by Nyayo Estate with three points while Starehe was third with a point.
In other matches played at the same venue, guests Garrisa Water defeated Hospital Hill in straight sets 26-24,25-21,25-22.
Nembu humbled Parklands Arya 3-1(25-17,22-25,25-10,15-9) while Hospital Hill defeated Aquinas High school 25-14,25-22,25-15.
Kasarani Academy defeated Parklands in straight sets 25-19,25-17,25-13 in another fixture.
