New Vision editor elected USPA president

KAMPALA – Sabiiti Muwanga, the deputy sports editor of New Vision, has been elected president of the Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) 2014-2016.

Muwanga was voted on Saturday during the USPA assembly at Christ the King Church hall. Also elected was Patrick Kanyomozi as the new General Secretary.

Mubarak Kasule and Robert Magembe retained their posts of Organizing Secretary and Treasurer, respectively, as they were unopposed.

Muwanga beat Leon Ssenyange by 43 to 36 votes while Kanyomozi defeated Johnson Were 49 to 33.

On his part, Muwanga pledged that his term of office will be focused on improving the standard of sports journalism in Uganda.

“I call upon everyone to join me so that we work as a team. This victory indicates that there is a sign of progress and determination in USPA,” he said.

Muwanga also called upon all USPA and aspiring members to always turn up for USPA activities.

The outgoing USPA president Mark Namanya, urged the new executive to ensure the association’s members uphold professionalism.
