Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) president Sabiiti Muwanga has urged leaders in Nakasongola to promote sports talent in the area as one way of building formidable national teams.
Muwanga made the appeal at the Kyeyune Cup final at Kakooge play ground on Saturday where USPA played a curtain raiser game against Simba Radio employees.
“We are glad to see that such a big crowd turns up for this event and I appeal to leaders to promote such activities. That is how young talented players will be identified to represent their country,” Muwanga stated.
He lauded USPA member Ivan Kyeyune, the host, for organising such a tournament and inviting USPA.
In the soccer final, Nakasongola TC walked away with a bull after edging Kakooge Town Council 2-1.
Nakasongola’s Kenneth Mukiibi, who scored both the goals in the final, emerged top scorer with nine goals and was rewarded with a motorcycle.
Kyeyune, a sports commentator at Radio Simba has declared his intentions to contest for the parliamentary seat in the area.
