The Taifa Cup netball tournament defending champions Temeke Queens maintained their unbeaten record after thrashing Coast Region 34- 17 at the TCC Chang’ombe Grounds in Dar es Salaam.
With one game remaining to wind up their title defence campaign, Temeke sit top of the table after winning their five consecutive games in the league.
They displayed a classic game to defeat Coast to put themselves in a pole position of retaining their title. Temeke’s close competitors Urban West from Zanzibar are in the second slot after winning four games and losing one.
Dodoma, who lost 23-28 to Urban West at the same venue on Wednesday, are in third slot, while Coast are settled in fourth place. Temeke will wind up their campaign today when they will be in action against Tabora.
A win for Temeke will ensure them the title. In a previous match yesterday, Urban West won 26- 21 against Coast at the same venue.
Three other matches were set to be played late on Thursday with Ilala, who lost 19-35 in their previous game to Arusha, playing against Tabora, who also lost their preceding game 35-21 to Kinondoni.
Kinondoni were scheduled to take on Arusha who outshined Ilala in their previous game. The league will reach its climax tomorrow with Tabora playing against Arusha and Coast locking horns with Dodoma.
The winners will be awarded cash prizes with the champions bagging 1m/-, while first and second runnerups will get 700,000/- and 500,000/- respectively, courtesy of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) member, Shy-Rose Bhanji.
