Arusha Gymkhana Club (AGC) secretary Richard Gomes emulated his 2012 success after emerging at the top of the club’s Order of Merit in 2014.
According to the club’s tournament records calculated by December 29, last year, Gomes is on top of the list after accumulating 330 points from 33 tournaments he played.
But the record is 33 less than 363 points he collected in 2012 from 42 tournaments. He finished second in 2013 with 326 points.
The record shows that Gomes tied with AGC chairman Tony Frisby to register the largest tournament record of 33 compared to others in 2013.
The 2013 champion Frisby has 268 points this time around to settle in second place. Gomes had a terrible period on the golf course in the latest months, but his marvellous start means no one can bring him down.
According to the club’s tournament records conducted in 2013, Frisby was on top of the list after accumulating 373 points from 41 tournaments he played, but could not keep up the pace this time.
However, the order of merit currently shows is a two-horse race at the club. Muzzafar Yusufali is the biggest mover in the list after missing out in the top ten last year but managed third place with 238 points from 27 tournaments. Simon Travers, who also had 27 tournaments, is fourth with 225.
Others in the top ten list include new entry Aliabbas Somji, who had 213 points from 29 tournaments, the Tanzania Golf Union (TGU) treasurer Gelase Ruta (202 from 31), Hussein Kermali (179 from 27), Nihar Manoj (175 from 28), Jay Nathwani (175 from 23), and Aayush Natwani (173 from 27).
Those who dropped from last year’s top ten are Kamal Jandu, Jason Frisby, Mirisho Sarakikya and Hitesh Natwani. As usual, the records show that those who played more tournaments had an advantage of acquiring important points to ensure they stay at the top.
About 113 golfers took part in the club’s different tournaments last year, which is an increase of ten players compared to 93 of 2014. The previous year, 119 players took part in the tournament.
