The Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC) Snooker section has organised the January 2015 Snooker Mug tournament set to start on Monday at the club.
The January Mug will kick off this year snooker events at the club, the section’s Secretary Fatema Yusufali told the ‘Daily News on Saturday’ on Friday.
“We have organised our first event at this year’s calendar, we are all looking forward to return to the competition,” she said. Yusufali said that preparations for the two-week long event that is for members only is on top gear and all that they are waiting is for the event to take place.
She added that the tournament will be sponsored by one of regular player Joseph Tango, who is also the Tanzania Golf Union (TGU) Vice-Chairman.
Yusufali said that in recent years, Tango has been one of the snooker section good supporter and they are lucky to have him in the competition. She also acknowledged others supports who she says have always done tremendous job for them.
“We are thankful for Tango for his support to our section and the game at large, he is always there to help and will open our year event,” she said.
According to Yusufali, top snooker players are anxiously waiting to battle it out for the top honours in the tournament, which is divided into two groups- Division A and B. She said that about 24 players have so far already registered for the event and hope to have thrilling competition.
Yusufali said that this will be a handicap competition like any other club’s event and will be played as best of three frames. The tournament will end on February 8th this year at the club and winners will be awarded with trophies at the presentation ceremony to be held at the club.
