Tanzania’s prolific snooker player Arjun Lavingia cruised into the fourth round of the Africa Snooker Championship in Marrakech, Morocco on Wednesday evening.

According to reports from Morocco, Arjun booked his place in the fourth round of the African meet for the second time after seeing off Saleem Moosa of Mauritius 4-1 in the best of seven frames match held at Hotel Eden Andalou in Marrakech.

The youngster did the same at the just-ended Africa 6 Reds Championship held at the same venue last week. The Tanzania ace qualified for the knockout stage after leading his Group A by winning all his four matches, including beating Africa 6 Reds champion Ahmed Galal from Egypt, who finished behind him.

However, both went through the group stages. Arjun was scheduled to meet Alaa Hager from Egypt last evening for a place in the quarter-finals.

Hager went through after ousting host Amine Bladi by a 4-1 victory to make the match between him and Arjun to be more exciting.

Should Arjun go through he could meet either Chaouki Yousfi of Morocco or South African Faaris Khan in the quarter-final also scheduled for last night. It was the Tanzanian’s third quarter- finals in four outings since 2010 when he participated for the first time in the African Championship Cairo, Egypt.

The tournament, which rolled off on June 18, reaches its climax today in Marrakech. It started with the Africa Red Six whose winner Galal and runner-up Moroccan Chaouki will represent Africa in the World Sangsom 6 Reds in Bangkok, Thailand, while the African champion will represent the continent in the World Championship to be held in Latvia later this year.

Countries taking part in the event include Tanzania, South Africa, Egypt, Libya, Sudan, Mauritius, Mozambique, Algeria, Tunisia and hosts Morocco.
