Kadaga was officiating at the closure of the two-day, 3rd edition of the annual Joan Cox Memorial Volleyball tournament at Gayaza High School on Sunday.
“I know as government we have not supported sports much but we shall continue pressing for more funding,” Kadaga said before crowning the winners.
She advised the students to pursue sports alongside their studies in order to be fit and maintain healthy lifestyles because “it is not expensive to run and play”, and because they could land scholarships from the sports they compete in at university.
She also advised the organisers to widen the scoop of teams (regions) that play in the tournament.
Trust High School dethroned Kinaawa High 3-1 (25-23, 22-25, 25-14, 25-23) to emerge champions of the U-21 category while Kinaawa junior team beat Samaritan Primary School 2-1(18-25, 26-24, 15-13) in the under 16 category.
In the semis Kinaawa had seen off Namugongo Vocational 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-22) while Trust High were also 3-0 (25-13, 25-09, 26-24) winners over Lubiri SS.
Samaritan Primary School saw off Bweranyangi 2-0 (25-7, 25-11) while Kinaawa Mugogo eliminated Iganga SS 2-0 (25-20, 25-22) in the U-16.
In the women clubs category Vision Volleyball Club beat Nkumba University 3-1 (23-25, 25-15, 25-19, and 25-10) to start their 2015 season on a high.
