The Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC) Chairman, Dioniz Malinzi, has challenged the newly elected snooker committee to work hard and stage bigger tournaments.
Malinzi gave the challenge when addressing members of the snooker section during their annual general meeting held at the club on Tuesday night.
He said: “I see a youthful snooker committee elected today (Tuesday) and I’m certain you will be more active and organise bigger tournaments at the club and make it busy throughout the year.
“The outgoing committee did a very good job and you can do better.” Malinzi supervised the election, in which Nikhil Sangani was elected new captain.
He takes over from Firoz Yusufali who, together with his former committee, did not seek re-election after being in office for several years.
Nawaz Ladha was voted new vice-captain, while youngster Dhaivat Joshi was elected new secretary, taking over from the only lady in the section, Fatema Yusufali, who also did not seek re-election.
Joseph Tango took the treasurer post from Iqbar Zavery and the competition secretary’s post went to Kalpesh Lavingia. All new office bearers were elected unopposed but have a tough job ahead of them to emulate the previous committee’s success and make the snooker rooms more active by organising frequent tournaments.
“As I said before, this is a young committee, but from my point of view you need to mix-up with veterans,” he said. Malinzi added that the veterans have ideas that can help the section, so it is wise to have them in the new committee.
Outgoing captain Yusufali thanked all members for their support and sponsors who make his committee successful during its stay in office.
He also commended Malinzi, R & K Trucking Ltd boss Rupesh Soni, Joseph Tango, Kishen Debar of Insignia Paints Ltd, Sajaad Salehbhai, Chaga Mode, DGC General Manager Sophie Nyanjera and the ‘Daily News’ for their unwavering support. He said he will give the new leaders all the necessary support for the betterment of the section and the DGC at large.
