The Dar es Salaam Regional Volleyball Association (DAREVA) has changed courts that will hosts the ongoing regional league this weekend.
DAREVA official Nassoro Shariff told the ‘Daily News on Saturday’ in the city on Friday that the league will continue at the Uhuru Primary School courts and not the National Indoor Stadium as earlier planned.
“I want to confirm that all matches this weekend will be played at the Uhuru courts,” he said. Shariff added that they have shifted the venue because the National Indoor Stadium will host a boxing bout this weekend.
“I want to take this opportunity to apologise to the teams and fans for the disturbance. We hope the weather will be friendly to us,” he said. He appealed to fans to come forward in big numbers to cheer the teams and make the event a success.
The tournament, which started on February 28, used to be held every weekend at Uhuru Primary School courts in the city, but DAREVA was forced to shift it to the National Indoor Stadium last weekend to rescue it from heavy rains.
Shariff said today’s three men’s matches will be held at Uhuru courts. He said league leaders Tanzania Prisons face Chui, Police Marine meet Future, while JKT will battle it out against Jeshi Stars in the day’s last match expected to be tough and unpredictable.
Sunday, JKT ladies will take on Jeshi Stars, Makongo will face Police Marine and Prisons will encounter Twalipo. Prisons are leading the men’s series after collecting eight points from three matches they played so far.
Their sisters are also leading at ladies category with six points from two matches. The league is played over two legs. The first leg ends on April 18 and the second leg is set for May 9 to August 1.
