Prisons men’s team took full control of the ongoing Dar es Salaam Regional Volleyball League yesterday to extend their lead.

The in-form Prisons warders stretched their lead to 11 points to stay top of the table after beating Chui 3-0 at the Uhuru Primary School court. The defeat leaves Chui in more trouble as they are still at the bottom with no point.

The match was to be held at the National Indoor Stadium, but the organisers had to change the venue because the stadium hosts other sports activities this weekend.

Prisons have dropped only a point in the league. They beat Jeshi Stars 3-2 in a tough duel three weeks ago.

Dar es Salaam Regional Volleyball Association (DAREVA) rules stipulate that a team has to win 3-0 or 3-1 sets to be awarded three points, but if the scoreline is 3-2, the winning team earns two points, while a point goes to the loser.

Prisons are currently the only team yet to test defeat in the league in both men and ladies categories. In other matches scheduled for yesterday Police Marine were pitted against Future, while JKT encountered Jeshi Stars in a match billed to be tough and unpredictable.

Before their on Saturday’s fixture JKT and Jeshi Stars had collected seven points each, but the latter are second as their opponent have lost more sets.

Sunday, JKT ladies take on Jeshi Stars in a match expected to produce a lot of thrills as both teams have vowed to emerge victors.

Jeshi Stars are placed second with three points while JKT, who are playing their first match in the league that involves four ladies teams, are hunting for their first points.

In the men’s category Makongo face Police Marine and leaders Prisons are in action again Twalipo. The league is played over two legs every weekend.

The first leg that started February 28 ends on April 18 and the second leg is set for May 9 to August 1.
