Jeshi Stars ladies whipped their archrivals JKT 3-1 in an exciting encounter to join Prisons at the top of the ladies category of the ongoing Dar es Salaam Regional Volleyball League.
Jeshi Stars produced some fine moves to down their opponent in the only ladies match played over the weekend at the Uhuru Primary School ground in the city.
The win saw Jeshi Stars collect a total of 6 points from three matches to move level on points with table toppers Prisons who have played a game less.
JKT, who were playing their first match in the league that involves four ladies teams, saw their desire to collect first points fated at the hands of a fighting Jeshi Stars team, who have so far lost one match to Prisons.
In the men’s category, Prisons cruised to a comfortable win over Twalipo at the same court on Sunday to extend their league to 14 points.
Prisons ensured that their winning run continue with a routine 3-0 sets victory against their Sunday’s opponents. Prisons defeated Chui with the same margin the day before and sit atop of the eight-team log.
Second-placed Jeshi Stars, meanwhile, laboured to a 3-2 sets win against JKT in an intriguing game to earn two points, while their opponent got a point.
Dar es Salaam Regional Volleyball Association (DAREVA) rules stipulate that a team has to win 3-0 or 3-1 sets to be awarded three points, but if the scoreline is 3-2, the winning team earns two points, while a point goes to the loser. Jeshi Stars now have collected 9 points and occupy second place, while JKT remain in third position with 8 points.
In another men’s game played on Sunday, Police Marine fought hard before losing 3-2 to Makongo. The losers had to agree with a point, while Makongo added two points to their tally.
Marine, who on Saturday secured a 3-1 win over Future are now in fourth place with 6 points, while Twalipo who lost to Prisons dropped to fifth on 5 points. Future and Makongo have 3 point each, while Chui are glued in bottom with no point.
The Dar es Salaam Regional Volleyball League matches take place every weekend and the first leg is scheduled to end in April 18, while the second leg is set for May 9 to August 1.
