Dar zone emerge Umisseta overall champions

The Dar es Salaam zone emerged the overall champions of national Inter-Secondary School Games, UMISSETA that ended yesterday at Butimba Teachers Training College here.

Dar es Salaam collected a total of 60 points and were followed by Eastern zone on 48 points and East Western zone finished third with 40 points.

In volleyball girls, Dar es Salaam zone beat Eastern Zone 3-2 sets to finish first, Eastern zone finished second and South Eastern zone finished third.

In volleyball boys, Dar es Salaam zone beat Eastern zone by 3-0 sets to emerge champions. Eastern zone finished second and Zanzibar was placed third.

Laze zone emerged champions in handball girls, Dar es Salaam and Central zones were placed second and third respectively, while in boys’ category, Zanzibar won the top award, the second place went to highland zone, while Dar es Salaam zone finished third.

In athletics boys, North western emerged winners, Eastern zone came second while Lake zone finished third. In girls’ category, the top prize went to Eastern zone, while North Eastern and Lake zone finished second and third respectively.

Table tennis girls category, champions were Dar es Salaam zone, Western zone finished second and Northern zone were placed third, while in boys category, Dar es Salaam were declared champions, Northern zone finished second.

Netball was dominated by Dar es Salaam zone, Eastern zone finished second and Lake zone finished third. Eastern zone became basketball champion in boys’ category, Dar es Salaam zone finished second and Eastern zone were placed third.

Dar zone lost 89-65 basket against Eastern zone in the final match. In girls’ category, Dar es Salaam zone became champions after beating West Eastern zone 30-27.

Highland zone won the boys football champions after beating Dar es Salaam zone 1-0. Lake zone finished third after beating Zanzibar zone 3-1.

In girls’ category, Dar es Salaam zone won the title after thrashing Eastern zone 7-1. Opah Clement netted a hat-trick, scoring in the 32, 66 and 69 minutes, while Sanina Emmanuel also scored a hat-trick (40, 49 and 81 minutes) and Mwantumu Ramadhan netted once in the 70th minute.

Eastern zone consolation goal was scored by Khadija Kitale in the 13 minutes. Chairman of the national Inter-secondary school games, Bernard Makali congratulated all 12 zones that were involved in the annual event.

All the top three positions participating teams were awarded a Silver cup and certificate of participation.
