The Dar es Salaam Regional Volleyball League second leg winds up today with two matches at the National Indoor Stadium. Organised by the Dar es Salaam Amateur Volleyball Association (DAREVA), the league was played over two legs.

The first leg ran from February to April, this year and the second leg stated in May. Eight men’s teams battled it out for four play-off places, while four teams competed in the women’s category.

DAREVA official Nassoro Shariff told the ‘Daily News on Saturday’ in the city yesterday that all is set for the last matches of the second leg.

“The second leg will climax on Saturday with two matches with Makongo Secondary School taking on Police Marine and Chui meet JKT,” he said.

Police Marine, who are fourth in the table after accumulating 19 points, have already qualified for the play-offs. However, Makongo will have to fight hard to have a perfect finish.

Third placed JKT, who have 25 points, will be looking to add other points against underdogs Chui, who are bottom of the table with three points. The only win for Chui was a 3-0 victory over Twalipo two weeks ago and they will enter the pitch intent to get good results.

Tanzania Prisons have hauled a total 40 points to finish top in the league after two legs. They are followed by secondplaced Jeshi Stars on 33 points. The other team was Future.

In the ladies category, Tanzania Prisons finished at the top without losing a match like their brothers, while Jeshi Stars were second after losing two games. JKT are third and Makongo Secondary finished last.

All have qualified for the play-offs that will start after the second leg ends on August 1. Shariff said the league went well and was more competitive, especially in the second leg that saw some surprising results.

He appealed to players and fans to come forward in big numbers to cheer up the competing teams.
