Many sports lovers have so far come forward to collect nomination forms for different posts in the Tanzania Amateur Handball Association (TAHA).
National Sports Council (NSC) Secretary General Henry Lihaya said the door is still open to those wishing to vie for different posts in the association’s forthcoming general election. TAHA polls are scheduled for next month in Dar es Salaam and will be supervised by NSC.
“It is encouraging to see many sports personalities coming forward to collect nomination forms… this is a good sign,” he said.
Posts to be contested include chairman and vice-chairman, secretary general, assistant secretary general, treasurer and assistant treasurer.
Other posts are chairpersons of the technical, justice, constitutional and medical committees as well as ten committee members. Lihaya said about nine applicants had by yesterday returned the form. But he said most o them are seeking committee membership posts.
“Since there is still time we expect more to return their nomination forms,” he said. According to Lihaya, none of the incumbent executive committee members have collected the forms.
“We’ve seen several sports personalities collecting the forms but no of the serving members has done so,” he said. “The door is open to anyone who meets the association’s laid down norms to come forward and contest the polls and the end of this month is the deadline,” said Lihaya. He said the elected office bearers will serve a four-year term.
Outgoing secretary Nicolas Mihayo told the ‘Sunday News’ recently that he has not yet decided whether to seek re-election or not. “I’ve served TAHA in this position for one term, I’m not sure if I will seek re-election. I will decide at an appropriate time,” he said.
