KAMPALA – Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) will hold its annual road safety campaign on August 22 in Lugazi, Buikwe district.
The annual event is meant to promote road safety awareness among public road users in memory of the four fallen USPA executive members who were killed in a road accident in Lugazi in 2001.
This was disclosed by USPA president Sabiiti Muwanga during the Nile Special USPA monthly assembly at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala.
He also urged USPA members to stick to journalism ethics and professionalism while conducting their duties.
During the body’s monthly meeting, athlete Dorcus Ajok was voted The Nile Special USPA sportsperson of the month of July.
“We should not derail from the professional ethics while carrying out duties and we must be professional at all times,” said the association’s president.
Dorcus Ajok won a gold medal at the World University Games in Gwangju, Korea early last month.
The 23-year-old clocked a time of 4:18.53 ahead of Canada’s Gabriela Stafford who finished in a time of 4:19.27 and Russia’s Kristina Ugarova (4:19.78).
To win the USPA monthly award, Ajok pooled 640 points against 20-year-old amateur golfer Ronald Otile who managed 570 points. Otile won the 73rd Tusker Malt Uganda Amateur Open.
Others commended were Rugby Cranes who won the Tier1B tournament, Golfer Flavia Namakula who won the 62nd Tusker Malt Uganda Ladies Open.
The USPA activities are supported by Standard Chartered bank, City Tyres, and Nile Special.
