The 42-year-old who has been playing for Police Netball and Handball teams is said to have succumbed to Typhoid according to Police head coach, Fred Mugerwa.

“She has been treating malaria for the last two weeks not until on Thursday last week when she told me that she was diagnosed with typhoid but unfortunately she was unable to fight it,” he said.

“She will be missed by the netball and handball fraternity,” he added.

Apako’s body was at Rubaga mortuary by Thursday morning and according to Mugerwa, they were searching for sh300,000 to clear the hospital bills.

“We are working closely to make sure that the body is removed from the hospital before we make burial arrangements,” Mugerwa said.

Apako was among the 12 player on the She-Cranes team that represented Uganda at the Netball World Cup two months ago.

Even though she played just one game at the World Cup, Apako remained an inspirational figure amongst her teammates on the bench and after Uganda’s victory against Wales.

Apako joined the Railways team in 1986 to 2000. She later joined the National Insurance Corporation (NIC) netball team until 2009 before joining Police.
