Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF) president Sadik Nasiwu says the federation plans to suspend coach Nicholas Obeke for his violent conduct against players.
UVF’s stand follows a sickening video that went viral on social media last Friday in which a sports coach, who was later identified to be Obeke, was seen slapping students inside a hall.
In the video that left many Ugandans shocked, Obeke could be heard asking; ‘Isaac, what did I say when we were at campus? before slapping the student and then asking ‘what did I say’? before slapping the student again.’
‘What did I communicate, you think I am stupid? he says before throwing more slaps.’
Four students were slapped in the clip that runs for one minute and 44 seconds.
Obeke, who also coaches volleyball at St Mary’s Kidende, Kyambogo and Nkumba university, committed the act while away with students of Kyambogo University at the Bishop Stuart Open volleyball championship in Mbarara.
On Sunday, Obeke told New Vision that: “Parents entrusted me with their children and we made it clear before leaving that any player who can’t afford staying without beers, clubbing and sex should stay back,” Obeke stated.
But Nasiwu said yesterday that: “We condemn the coach’s behaviour and we shall come up with a statement. It may not be commensurate with what he has done but we want to protect the sport.”
