Mbarouk Suleimani won the best player’s gong during the 8th Zanzibar Budokan-Toyota Judo Cup2013 held at the Amaan Stadium over the weekend.
Suleiman of Zanzibar also emerged winner of the 73kg weight category national Judo championship staged in the spicy Isles, with 90 judokas — 60 from Zanzibar and 30 from the Mainland — battling out fiercely for the top honours.
The vividly excited Suleiman received a special prize from National Sports Council Executive Secretary while the Minister for Information, Culture, Tourism and Sports, Said Ali Mbarouk, promised him a return ticket to Pemba and accommodation.
He outsmarted fellow Islander Hafiz Makame for the top gong in the thrilling 73kg bout. Moshi PA Budokan club shone brightly at the championship after two of its judokas, Ahamed Magogo, 60kg and Andrew Thomas, 66kg, won gold medals after winning their final bouts against Abuu Selemani of Dar es Salaam and Abdul Samad Alawai of Zanzibar.
Godfrey Mtawa of Magereza won the 90kg final against Mohamed Khamis of Police Zanzibar, while Masoud Amour roared past Mohamed Abdurahaman in the 100kg category.
Grace Alfonce and Layuu Selemani, both of Zanzibar Budokan club, respectively won the under57kg and over 57kg categories following wins against Mjigani Selemani of Zanzibar Budokan and Matirda Temba of Dar es Salaam (Kisutu).
All top winners were eventually presented with a 300,000/- cash award each, gold medals and certificates. Runners-up received 200,000/- , silver medals and certificates.
Third winners and their clubs and weight in brackets are Azzan Hussein (Zanzibar Budokan, 60kg), Abubakar Nzige (Moshi PA, 60kg), Mansab Alawi (Zanzibar Budokan, 66kg), Bakari Abdulrahaman (Moshi PA, 60kg), Gervas L Chilipweli (Magereza, 73kg), Iddi Khamis (Zanzibar Budokan, 73kg), Rajab Kasim (Zanzibar Budokan, 73kg), Khalfan Ali (Police, 90kg), Ashraf Suleiman (Mlandege, 100kg).
Zanzibar Budokan-Toyota Judo Cup2013 was weight category National Judo Championship and one of qualifying competition for selecting the National team 2014 include of Commonwealth games Glaskow2014.
