The Tanzania Olympic Committee (TOC) has confirmed that the 5km road race in commemoration of the Olympic Day will be held in Mbeya today.
TOC Secretary General, Filbert Bayi said here that the race which will bring together thousands of young people under the motto “Move, Learn and Discover”, will take place at the Sokoine Memorial Stadium. He said Mbeya Regional Commissioner, Abbas Kandoro will grace the event.
Olympic Day is a celebration for youth around the world to observe the Olympic values of Fair Play, Perseverance, Respect and Sportsmanship. It is also a day to celebrate the International Olympic Committee’s 3 pillars: Move, Learn and Discover.
The Olympic Day celebration is in communion with the 204 National Olympic committees worldwide and in accordance with recommendations from the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
It was on June 23rd 1894 that Baron Pierre de Coubertin was able to share a fabulous dream: the restoration of the Ancient Olympic Games that happened two years later in 1896 in Athens, Greece with the organization of the first Olympic Games of the modern era.
The Olympic Day celebration has been a firm pillar for the celebration of Olympics throughout the world, the biggest mass sports in the world organized to commemorate the founding of the modern Olympic Movement (IOC).
The Day is a great opportunity for the people around the world to experience the Olympic values and live the Olympic experience outside Game times.
