According to a statement released by TASWA Secretary General Amir Mhando, the election will be conducted under the existing association’s constitution.

Mhando said the decision has been made to avoid the current leadership to continue being in office, which is against the constitution. He said that the process of acquiring the association’s new constitution was still in progress and may take time before it is finalised.

He further said that the decision to call for the general election under the current constitution has been approved by the Executive Committee, which met in Dar es Salam yesterday to discuss various agenda.

Mhando said that the major task of the new TASWA leadership to be elected in February will be to ensure that the association has a new constitution.

Apart from announcing the date of the election, the Executive Committee has also urged its members to pay their past membership fees from 2011 to 2013 and the deadline for the exercise has been set at the end of this month. He said those who will fail to do so will be counted as inactive members and will lose their right to vote.

Apart from that, TASWA has also disclosed that they will not register new association members after the general election.

Mhando said nomination forms for members vying for various posts in the association will be available from February 10 to 14, this year.

In another development, Mhando said TASWA Executive Committee has appointed its former chairman, who is currently the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF), Information Officer, Boniface Wambura, as the chairman of the TASWA Election Committee, which will supervise next month’s polls.

The committee contains four other members. They are Mwina Kaduguda, who is the former association’s secretary general, Peter Mwenda, Isakwisa Mwaifuge and Tanzania Ladies Golf Association (TLGU) president Mbonile Burton.

TASWA Executive Committee has also requested two independent election observers from the National Sports Council (NSC) and Information Service Department.
