The Tanzania Amateur Netball Association, CHANETA, cannot afford to employ General Secretary, the fact that forced them to make amendments to withdraw that requirement in their constitution.
CHANETA Chairperson Anna Kibira conceded that paying monthly salary to a hired official was a ‘big’ challenge to the association.
She said this is why the national netball association felt it wise to make some amendments in its constitution which include withdrawing the article that says the association should employ a person for the General Secretary post.
Speaking with the ‘Sunday News’ on Saturday in Dar es Salaam, Kibira said in the new draft they have proposed for an elected Secretary General, instead.
Kibira, who was previously the association’s Secretary General before being elected to the top post, said the constitution amendments task has been completed and they are expecting to present the constitution draft to the Registrar of Sports Association and Clubs next week.
She added that if their constitution draft will be approved by the Registrar, CHANETA will conduct a by-election to fill the vacant post.
“If our constitution draft is approved by the Registrar we will conduct a by-election to fill the post of Secretary General as earlier as possible,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Tanzania Amateur Netball Association, CHANETA, has confirmed that it will host the East and Central Africa Clubs Championship to be held from March 23 to 31 in Dar es Salaam.
According to CHANETA Chairperson Anna Kibira, they have already sent invitation letters to all zone five members to invite them for the event, which the defending champions are from Kenya and Uganda in men and women categories.
Prisons from Kenya are the title holder for men category, while Uganda’s NIC are women’s title holders. All countries plus the host Tanzania will be represented with four clubs each in the event, except for countries of zone five which will have three clubs each.
In previous event held in Kenya, Tanzania failed to take part due to financial constraint.
