JKT Mbweni take on Uganda Prisons in the East Africa Netball Club Championship women’s semi-final at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam this morning.

Mbweni qualified for the semis with an unbeaten record in the group stage that concluded. The Mainland representatives humbled Mafunzo of Zanzibar 54-41 in their last match.

Mbweni coach Mary Frank praised her ladies for putting up an impressive show in the tournament she described as tough and unpredictable.

“My ladies have done a good job and I’m confident we’ll clinch the trophy if we maintain our tempo and fighting spirit,” she said. Mafunzo coach blamed the umpires for not being fair and failing to adhere to the game’s rules.

“The umpires were not officiating fairly and deliberately flouted the rules governing netball,” she claimed.

Defending champions Uganda’s National Insurance Corporation (NIC) will take on the Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology (MOICT) of Kenya in the second women’s semi-final.

In the men’s series, Kenya Prisons will take on Kampala University while Police Zanzibar will battle it out against compatriots Jeshi la Kujenga Uchumi (JKU).

Police Uganda wound up their campaign with a 41-33 victory over Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA).
