The Tanzania Standard Newspapers (TSN) Limited netball team fought bravely but lost to Azam TV 18-13 in a thrilling NSSF Media Cup math at the TCC Chang’ombe grounds in Dar es Salaam.
TSN started brightly slotting goals almost at will but lost steam as the game progressed. They picked up momentum in the dying minutes of the game but could not rescue the situation.
TSN’s goal shooter Flora Mwakasala was a constant threat to Azam TV netting almost all goals for her ‘unlucky’ team.
Mwakasala, who was supported by aggressive Edna Mafuwe, Scholastica Mhando and Neema Nkono fought to the bitter end of the game but were let down by lack of endurance.
Restuta Leon was playing in the middle part and Jane Chiponde marshalled the TSN defence before she was deployed in the goal attacking role.
In another match, Jambo Leo whitewashed the Ministry of Information, Youth, Culture and Sports 60-8. It was a one-sided encounter in which the winners displayed unique skills that left their opponents chasing shadows.
In football, New Habari succumbed to a humiliating 4-1 defeat at the hands of MAELEZO Zanzibar.
Opening the annual event, Minister for Labour and Employment Gaudensia Kabaka praised the organisers of the event, saying it provides a good platform for journalists from various media houses in the country to mingle, improve their health and foster relations.
