Three national team boxers and a coach are set to leave the country for Turkey on April 14, to set camp for 2014 Commonwealth Games.
The quadrennial Games are scheduled to be held in Glasgow, Scotland from July 23 to August 3 this year.
Speaking with the ‘Sunday News’ Boxing Federation of Tanzania (BFT) Secretary General, Makore Mashaga said the trio will be the first batch to leave the country, saying the second batch comprising five boxers and a coach is due to depart on May 1 this year to China for the same programme.
Mashaga named boxers who will leave on April 14 for Turkey and their respective weight in bracket as Joseph Martine (kg75), Emmilian Patrick (kg 56) and Fabian Charles (60 kg).
The team will be under Coach Jonas Mwakisile. Those who will be heading to China are Selemani Kidunda (69 kg), Nasser Mafuru (60kg), Mohamed Furahisha (52kg), Ezra Paulo (56kg) and Ahmed Hakimu (81kg) under the tutelage of Mzonge Hassan.
Mashaga said the federation has already written to the National Service (JKT), requesting them to release two boxers Martine and Patrick to join the team for the trip to Turkey.
