Mercenaries popularly known as ‘Mamluki’ are not allowed to participate in the forthcoming National May Day Cup Tournament which is scheduled to kick-off from Monday in Morogoro.
According to a press statement issued by Secretary General of the May Day Cup Organising Committee, Award Safari, leaders of teams are warned not to include unemployed staff, otherwise, he said stern measures will be taken against any leader who will go beyond the lay down rules set for the tournament.
Safari said in the statement that the rules which guide the tournament are open to both leaders and players, which should be followed by any means during the event.
According to Safari, the tournament is special to all sports staff who falls under the federations of SHIMUTA, SHIMIWI, SHIMISEMITA and BAMMATA which include also staff from Regional Commissioners’ offices countrywide.
He said all confirmed teams are requested to be in Morogoro next Monday ready for the tournament.
In the following day leaders of the teams will have a meeting with the organising committee at Jamhuri Stadium, starting at 10:00 hours to be followed with another one at 16:00 hours which will involve all sportsmen and women to the tournament.
Games to be competed for include football, Netball, tug-of-war, athletics, cycling race, playing cards, ‘Bao’ and drought.
