Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) president William Blick has said that plans are on to build capacity to enable the country win medals at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Blick said that his administration has engaged various donors and partners from Germany and Russia, among others, in a bid to set up sports facilities around the country and secure funds to adequately prepare athletes for global competitions in future.
“My plan is to have our athletes win medals in the 2020 Olympics,” Blick stated.
“However, I appreciate the efforts of athletes who have excelled with basically no technical support.
“I believe it is time for us to put up facilities to enable the country win more medals in future.”
Blick was addressing sports journalists at the Nile Special/Uganda Sports Press Association monthly assembly at Lugogo last week.
Veteran UOC administrator Gabriel Oloka also addressed the meeting.
