Six cyclists who excelled in the Southern Highlands ‘Cycle Challenge Promotions’ ready to showcase their skills against other competitors at the Muungano Cycling Race set for today in Dar es Salaam.

Riders from Arusha, Dodoma, Lindi, Morogoro, Mbeya, Njombe, Mwanza, Shinyanga, Tanga, Zanzibar and hosts Dar es Salaam will face 118 kilometres gruelling challenge from Pugu to Coco Beach in the city.

The six riders from three stages of cycling Challenge promotions race organised by Image Professional Sports Club (IP Sports Club) this year at Momba and Mbarali in Mbeya region and Makete in Njombe region will be among other competitors to battle for top honours.

IP Sports Club official Abdallah Chapa told the ‘Daily News on Saturday’ in the city yesterday that the Southern Highland representatives include last weekend 43 kilometres Mbarali race champion 23-years old Isaac Laison who emerge king after clocking 1 hour 37 minutes 05 seconds and 34-year-old Lukas Muhagama, who won Momba race in Mbeya Region on March 30 in 01:10:59.

Others who represent the highlanders under IP Sports Club backing are 32-years Jotam Kimbombo (Matema Kyela), Castrol Msemwa (25), Biton Lupapa (27) all from Makete, Njombe and Elias Talla (39) from Mbeya Urban.

Chapa said that IP Sports Club who are keen to promote cycling race in Southern Highlands decide to sponsor some of riders who did well in the challenge promotion race to give them experience and get ready for more national and international competitions.

“Apart from organizing race in our zone, we felt it was wise to support riders to take part in Muungano race so that they can get experience and also test their skills against other top and experienced riders, this is good opportunity for them,” he said.

Chapa believes that the cyclists from Southern Highlands have got what it takes to fight for the top honours and possibly win the event.
