The National Beach Volleyball tournament that was to start today in Mwanza has been postponed to August this year.
The five-day event organized jointly by the Tanzania Amateur Volleyball Association (TAVA) and Mwanza regional body, MWAREVA, was expected to draw teams from different regions across the country.
TAVA chairman Agustino Agapa told the ‘Daily News’ in Dar es Salaam that the tournament that was to start 7-11 May this year will now be held in August.
He said that the tournament was expected to start after the national beach volleyball referees seminar earlier slated for Tuesday that has also been rescheduled.
“We decided to push forward the tournament and seminar to August due to several seasons but mostly to give ourselves enough time to organise the championship and make it a success,” Agapa said.
He added that the refereeing seminar is an important and key aspect on improving the standard of the game especially in the national tournament.
Agapa said the seminar is among other volleyball courses in their 2014 TAVA calendar and they are keen to honour them.
The association also held primary and secondary schools teachers’ volleyball coaching course in Ngara, Kagera region in February.
The course brought together 31 schools sports teachers from all districts of Kagera region, namely Biharamulo, Bukoba, Karagwe, Kyerwa, Missenyi, Muleba and Ngara.
Agapa said that plans are underway to extend the programme to other regions.
