Twenty five out of 47 candidates earned higher belts in the Dan promotion tests held by the Rwanda Taekwondo Federation over the weekend at Amahoro indoor stadium.

The one-day event held on Sunday saw 19 red belt holders from thirty-seven candidates earning black belt first Dan, while six black belt first Dan players out of 12 participants were promoted to second Dan.

“We are happy that the event was successful and congratulations to the promoted players. It’s another milestone for the sport and its development in Rwanda,” the Taekwondo federation Secretary General Placide Bagabo said.

He also disclosed that the 25 promoted players are now officially allowed to be taekwondo instructors anywhere in the country.

Meanwhile, Rwanda is gearing up for the second edition of Kenya’s George memorial tournament set for next month in Nairobi.

Last year, three Rwandans represented the country at the inaugural edition and two of them won medals. The promotion tests were led by Korean masters Kim and Jong.
