Sixty-seven Tanzania Police Force sportsmen and women will leave for Windhoek, Namibia tomorrow for the 8th Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Co-operation Organisation (SARPCCO) Game slated for August 15 to 30 this year.

According to Police Sports Officer Johanas Mahanga, the delegate will include men’s soccer team, netball, athletics for both men and women and darts. He said the players have been training at the Dar es Salaam Police Academy and they are in good shape and ready for the Games.

“They played several trial matches and won most of them and are now looking forward to faring well in Windhoek,” he added. Mahanga said 14 countries are taking part in the Games. They will compete in athletics, soccer, netball, darts, chess, tennis and volleyball.

“The aim also is to foster partnership in the sub-region and improve co-operation through sport, to build trust and friendship and to advance a common purpose in the region especially fighting against lawlessness,” he said.

Tanzania last took part in the Games in 2009 in Malawi where it finished overall second. The first Games were held in the South African capital Pretoria in 1999, while the Democratic Republic of Congo hosted the last Games in 2011.
