After being off the radar for the past three years, former bodybuilders have come together to revive the sport.
The 2011 East Africa Muscle Mania bronze medalist Christantus Omedo has joined hands with former bodybuilders to revive the Kenya Body Building Federation (KBBF).
In a statement, Omedo said he has brought together former athletes and administrators from Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret and Nakuru to resurrect the once vibrant sport.
Omedo (pictured) said an election for officials is set for this Saturday at the Nyayo National Stadium from 10am. He said voters will pay Sh500 as membership fees to be allowed to participate in the poll.
“Bodybuilders had shifted their efforts to privately organised competitions as KBBF has been inactive for many years.
“There is need to bring the good old days back to the sport,” said Omedo, who is also a former Mr Tembo champion.
During his heydays Omedo won dozens of awards after he was crowned Mr Eldoret, Bungoma, Mamba, Kisumu and second runner-up at Mr Carnival contests among others.
He added: “Many athletes felt wasted, betrayed, used and dumped by a few individuals who were not ready to promote the sport.”
“We have able former and current body builders who can take up the running of the affairs of the sport. We must have structures in place,” said Omedo who is eyeing the federation’s chairmanship.
