Uganda’s teams to the 13th edition of the East African Secondary School Championships have been urged to observe discipline so as to shine.

The annual competition due to start today Thursday, will run until September 1 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
President Museveni asked the teams to observe discipline in a speech read for him by Minister of Education and Sports Jesca Alupo at the National Council of Sports headquarters, Lugogo Wednesday before flagging off the teams.
“You must be disciplined to promote the true image of Uganda and I will welcome you back as
victors,” Museveni said.
On her part, Alupo said that ahead of next year’s edition, the government will increase its contribution towards the athletes’ welfare.
This year, government offered $2 for each athlete per day. Schools gave each athlete $5 per day. Government footed the bill for the teams’ uniforms and participation fees.
Last year, Uganda finished second overall behind Kenya.
At the same time, St. Mary’s Secondary school Kitende are out to defend their football and netball titles.
Uganda’s teams will compete in athletics, basketball, volleyball, netball, football, rugby, swimming, handball and chess.
Nabisunsa Girls, Mbogo Mixed, Kawempe Muslim School, St. Mary’s College Kisubi, St. Mary’s Kitende, Mvara SS, Lubiri SS, Ntare and Kololo SS are some of the teams that will represent Uganda.
The annual competition is organised by the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Association.
