He was opening the East African Secondary School Games at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Sunday. The Games have been organised by the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Associations (FEASSSA).

“Sports have been included in curriculums of primary and secondary schools as well as universities and the government has been organising competitions starting from schools, district, regional to national level,”Membe said.

He said sports bring happiness, promote health, create employment and consolidate unity, love and peace and I believe these Games will strengthen the East African Community (EAC).

Membe also noted that sports can turn around fortunes of EAC member-states by learning from those who perform better in international competitions.

FEASSA President Justus Mugisha from Uganda said the aim of the Games is to transform the society by bringing revolution in sports from the grassroots.
