The Rotary Cancer Run got another boost on Wednesday with more donations from UAP and Dimension Data. UAP offered sh10m while Dimension data contributed sh2m towards the charity run.
Proceeds from the event will go towards the Cancer Ward at S. Raphael of St. Francis Hospital, Nsambya. Centenary Bank and Pepsi are the major sponsors of the race with an offer of sh167m and 100m respectively.
Handing over the cheque, UAP assistant general manager perations Paul Muhame pledged continued support to the project.
“As a good corporate citizen, we strongly believe that community development is key in our agenda. We are pleased therefore to join this noble cause,” he said.
Former Tanzanian President Ali Hassan Mwinyi will be the chief runner. Besides entering a corporate team for the run, Information Technology (IT) giants Dimension data regional manager George Mbalu also pledged to take care of any IT needs in the development of the ward.
The planned 36-bed ward currently under fi nal stages of construction is expected to cost sh1.3billion.
