The Tanzania Hockey Association (THA) unveiled the names of the strong men’s and ladies hockey national team ahead of fourth coming World Hockey League slated for September 5-8 this year at the City Park Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya.
The team comprises 22 men’s and 17 ladies, who will compete in the Nairobi event. THA Assistant Secretary and national men’s head coach Mnonda Magani named the men’s team as Alfonce Muhoja, Hassan Wawila, Mufadal Juzer, Focus Paul (captain), Amarjeet Singh, Stephen Peter, Frank Sumila, Baraka Dibwe, Richard Daudi, Amos Nghambala, Abdallah Madodo, Sultani Kondo, Soka Masenza, Juma Waziri, Casto Mayuma, Abdallah Majid, Elias Samala, Deep Visram, Manreet Singh, Salum Mkude and Abdallah Katundu.
Ladies team has Sophia Saguti, Mary Sempinda, Nuru Kapama, Flora Chigoma, Gwantwa Mwakasagule, Zuwena Hassan, Kidawa Suleiman (captain), Grace Kundaeli, Francisca Kyaro, Maria Vungwa, Elizabeth Daniel, Hilda Mlimilagele, Wambera Mohamed, Kahidja Mohamed, Beatrice Fataki, Rose Gasper and Catherine Mwinyimvua.
Magani said that all players are in good condition and will leave the country tomorrow as was planned, ready for the tournament. Men’s and ladies team coaches Magani and Valentina Quaranta promised during the national flag presentation mid this week that they will put their all to restore the country’s honour.
The ladies team is sponsored by Techno Brain (T) Ltd, Diamond Motors and Jubilee Insurance, both of Dar es Salaam. Those supporting the men’s team are Pankaj Kansara and R& K Trucking LTD both of Dar es Salaam, Cultural Heritage and Hans Paul Automech of Arusha, Charan Singh & Sons, Rajinder Motors and Hari Singh & Sons of Moshi.
The league will also involve Egypt, Ghana and hosts Kenya. Tanzania women team will open their campaign with Ghana on September 5 at City Park Stadium in Nairobi.
The fixtures show that Tanzania men’s team will have a date with Egypt on September 6, and the following day they will face Ghana. The ladies team will take on Kenya on the same day.
