Kenya’s affiliation to the World Boxing Council (WBC) will be extended during the 52nd annual Convention in December.

Newly elected Kenya Professional Boxing Council (KPBC) chairman Hillary Onyango Alila said WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman had confirmed that the country’s membership will be appraised.
“The Agenda during the annual convention is to extend certificates of affiliation to all countries affiliated to our organisation through continental federations. In your case (Kenya) through the African Boxing Union,” said Sulaiman in a congratulatory message to Alila.
The (WBC) boss added: “On behalf of the members of the board of governors of the World boxing Council, I would like to send our warm congratulations on your election as the chairman of the Kenya Professional Boxing Commission. Please be assured that the WBC will support the Kenya Professional Commission in any way you might require.”
Alila, who said he was humbled by the recognition, pledged to work with the global boxing governing body for the development of the sport in Kenya.
“I pledge to work with the global boxing governing body for the 52nd annual convention to be held between December 14 and 20 in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA,” Alila said.
The KPBC chairman said his priority is to ensure tht proper structures are put in place to promote boxing in a bid to restore the sport’s former glory.
Alila said there are many upcoming talents especially in counties that need to be tapped.
“Many boxers have had to contend with fighting without gloves, head gear, mouth guards and and standard rings. As the chairman, we will address these issues as we strive to fulfil our promises,” said Alila who also promised to travel across the country to identify boxers’ problems.
The KPBA boss told FeverPitch: “We will put in place youth academies for the under-17, 18 and 20 to feed the national team with young boxers. This way, we will always have continuity in the sport for generations to come.”
