Athletics Kenya Vice President, David Okeyo, paid tribute to Pilipili and said the sports fraternity will “miss his honesty and integrity in the discharge of his duties”.

Former chairman of the Kenya Cricket Association, the precursor of Cricket Kenya, Sharad Ghai, said Pilipili was a dedicated cricket reporter “who always got his facts right”.

“I wish to send my personal condolences and that of my family to The Standard and the whole sports media fraternity following the demise of Oscar,” Ghai said.

DEDICATED JOURNALIST

Former chairman and life member of Kenya Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association, Subash Modi also sent his message of condolence.

“I am very sorry to learn of the sad demise of Mr Oscar Pilipili. Oscar was one of the finest and dedicated sports journalists in Kenya and he was well respected. He will be sadly missed. May God rest his soul in eternal peace,” said Modi.

Simon Chebon, Secretary of the Sports Personality of The Year Awards (Soya), also condoled with the family. He described Oscar’s death as tragic. He said Oscar has been very vibrant in his coverage of various sports events.

“He was a resourceful and reliable Soya panelist and was an authority on school games. He will be missed by many in the sports fraternity,” said Chebon.

Others who sent their condolence messages are Athletics Kenya Nyanza South chairman Peter Angwenyi and Cefafa Technical Officer Albert Okech.

Pilipili died on Tuesday morning at Jamaa Hospital following a bout of malaria, typhoid and fatigue. Funeral arrangements are being done at his Kariobangi South residence and Khayega Home in Kakamega County.
