The National Blind Sports Association is set to launch officially a new sport known as the “showdown”.

The NBSA chairperson William Safari said that early next month the blind athletes will exercise their playing rights. They are waiting for the partners to fix the dates of the event.

He has noticed a big number of blind communities attracted to the new sport after it was tested in Rwanda a few months ago.

“We bring showdown sports in Rwanda to keep up our mission of helping the blind people get out of loneliness through exercising their playing rights.”

“A big number of our blind people like this new game as it is an individual sport which occupies little space and doesn’t require much energy compared to Goal ball,” Safari said.

Showdown is a sport for the blind and the visually impaired which could be described as the blind communities answer to air hockey, or table tennis, the only difference being that the ball carries a bell for the players to locate its direction.

Currently, Showdown is being practiced in HVP Gatagara and other centers like Masaka and Kibeho.
