Said Salim Bakhresa (SSB) Group of Companies injected 10m/- to the Tanzania Sports Writers Association (TASWA), as part of its contribution in facilitating the prestigious 2013/14 Sports Personality of the Year Awards.
SSB General Manager Said Muhamed Said handed over a dummy cheque worth that amount to TASWA leadership in Dar es Salaam yesterday, saying his company is proud to be associated with the association in promoting sports in the country.
“As sports stakeholders we are proud to contributed 10m/- to TASWA as part of our contribution to facilitate the most prestigious event for sportsmen and women in the country,” he said.
TASWA Chairman Juma Pinto acknowledged SSB’s contribution and requested other companies and sports stakeholders to support the gala scheduled for December 12, this year.
He disclosed that 120m/- is needed to stage the annual event which was formerly under Serengeti Breweries Limited (SBL) sponsorship.
According to the TASWA boss, the gala failed to be held in 2012/13 due lack of sponsorship following the withdrawal of SBL. TASWA expects to unveil more sponsors for the event, including Public Service Pensions Fund (PSPF) in the coming days.
Meanwhile, TASWA Secretary General Amir Mhando said that the annual ‘Media Day Bonanza,’ which brings together media personnel, will be held as planned despite being postponed several times.
“We’re currently discussing with our new sponsor who will be disclosed later, but the talks are going on smoothly so we are confident that our bonanza will take place as planned,” he said.
He said the date of holding the bonanza will be fixed after the final discussions with the sponsor scheduled to take place on Saturday.
