Uganda Draught Association has written to the National Council of Sports saying that they unable to re-register as mandated by the new sports act.
Draught is one of the upcoming sports and last year had the president of the International Draught Association visit Uganda. He held meetings with different officials about the development of the game.
All national sports governing bodies were given a deadline of October 4 to register with National council of sports before they can be recognised as per the law.
They are required to fulfill a number of requirements that include presenting audited accounts, list of members, executive members and their contacts, official contacts of the federations, minutes of their past assembly and audited book of accounts showing the federation income and expenditure. The address includes the federation offices
However, draught federation secretary Rosko Bisaso in a letter to the National Council of sports general secretary said that they are not able to meet the requirements in time.
“We have not raised the $100 required for the exercise. We have no audited books of accounts as per requirements. We have had no moneys to audit as the federation,” read part of the letter from Bisaso.
Only 19 federations of the registered 53 have been able to submit their papers.
“The deadline is Friday and we are waiting for them. At least most of them have done partial submission of papers. The papers will be reviewed by the technical committee and those who pass the criteria will be fully registered and recognised.
Federations that have submitted their papers include football, hockey, rugby, woodball, canoe/kayak, rowing, fencing, karate-do, boxing, basketball, archery, motorsport, professional boxing, cricket, ludo, kickboxing, shooting and body building.
Among the federations that have not submitted anything include tennis, table tennis, cycling, netball and volleyball.
