Two Ugandans are among contestants eyeing a $500,000 (sh1.25bn) cash prize in the World Skateboarding Championships in South Africa.
Donald Mwesigwa and Peter Kyomuhendo are flying Uganda’s flag in the four-day event that began in Kimberly Thursday.
The World Skateboarding Grand Prix (WSGP) —the leading global skate event management company — on Monday announced Uganda’s quest for the sport’s biggest cash prize.
Presented by Kumba Iron Ore, the Skateboarding World Championships draw the best skateboarders from around the world to compete for the largest prize purse in skateboarding.
WSGP recently announced its expansion plans for 2015 which includes the Turkey Skateboarding Championships, the U.S. Skateboarding Championships, South African Skateboarding Championships and the Skateboarding World Championships.
Mwesigwa and Kyomuhendo are up against competitors from Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Botswana, Brazil, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Egypt, Ethiopia, Finland, France, Germany.
The others include Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Philippines, Russia, United Kingdom and United States.
A skateboard is propelled by pushing with one foot while the other remains on the board, or by pumping one’s legs in structures such as a bowl or half pipe.
