Pro Life winners awarded

The head of Vodacom in Lake Zone, Domician Mkama, has awarded winners of the Pro Life 2014 tournament involving St Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT) students.

He thanked the participating teams and commended the SAUT management for its support. He promised that Vodacom will support all tournaments to be organized by the university and he urged SAUT students to use Vodacom services for communication as they are cheap.

Basketball champions Faculty of Education were awarded 200,000/-, runners-up Faculty of Law received 120,000/-, while third placed Mass Communication got 80,000/-.

Public Relations emerged volleyball champions and cashed 200,000/- , Faculty of Law pocketed 120,000/- for finishing second, while Education received 80,000/-.

Netball champions Education received 200,000/-, Sociology took home 120,000/- and third placed Procurement won 80,000/- In football, the champions were Faculty of Education, who collected 250,000/-, Engineering received 200,000/- and Faculty of Law, who were in third position, settled for 150,000/-.

Engineering’s Kelvin Mutta and Athuman Hamis of Public Relations were the tournament’s best scorers while Omary Bakari was the best football player of the tournament.

The best netball players were Happy Wisely and Happy Ruta from Education, while Rodrick Murro of Education was the best basketball player. Pro Life tournament is conducted by SAUT every year with the aim to promote sports at the university.

The football competition involved eight teams — Public Relations, Education, Mass Communication, Business Administration, Engineering, Law, Sociology and Economics. Education thrashed Engineering 5-0 in the final match.

The victors’ goal came through Fadhil John, Omary Bakari (2), Kulwa Andrew and Hemed Hassan. Faculty of Law finished third in football after beating Public Relations 2-1.

Law goals were scored by Bundala Joseph and Wangwene Hamis, while Athuman Hamis scored the consolation goal for Public Relations. Football matches were played at Raila Odinga and Nyegezi Seminary grounds.
